DIY (Do It Yourself)

The DIY sector uses GS1 standards for article numbers and barcodes to bring order to warehouses and retail stores.

Different types of information are stored by different data sources. GS1 article numbers are used to merge information on an item from different places.

One challenge is to keep track of the large number of items that are involved. This covers both identifying items and quickly and easily reading the item number in the warehouse or at the point of sale. There are also special cases that must be handled such as how to number and label boards or windows or other items that vary in length and/or size.

When these challenges are met, the scene is set for trading partners to communicate since they can now speak the same language.

GS1 Sweden cooperates with the sector

GS1 Sweden has close cooperation with Byggmaterialhandlarna/Branschrådet Vilma, Bygg- och Fastighetsbranschen/BEAstVVS-Företagen/RSK and Sveriges Elgrossister. Together with the sector we are pursuing questions on identification, labelling and exchange of business information. We also work with providers of sector-related databases such as Logiq/FinfoVVS-informationE-nummer databasen and BASTA.
