Technical Industry

Defence, manufacturing, energy, transport and mining are all parts of technical industry which currently face the same challenges: cutting costs, preventing counterfeiting and digitalising operations.

All sectors need transparent processes to optimise their supply chains when spare parts and raw materials enter production to be worked on, assembled and packed before the finished product is shipped to the customer.

GS1’s standards to identify, capture and share information on products, transports and services enable the sector to achieve full transparency in the value chain and thus optimise the entire process from component purchase to finished product.

Within the industry sector there is considerable focus on:

  • Smart factory (Industry 4.0) including innovative technology, spare part management, and automation
  • Direct part marking and serialisation
  • Maintenance, repair and overhaul
  • Unique identification
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Traceability

GS1’s standards encourage operational compatibility in the sector leading to increased efficiency and reduced costs.
