GS1 enables manufacturers of consumer goods, food service and retail to improve product safety and traceability, share accurate product information throughout the value chain and make product recalls more efficient.
GS1’s barcodes are used by the leading food service distributors in Sweden to improve the efficiency of operations at all stages, improve availability and thus reduce costs.
You will find a barcode on almost every product you buy in a store. And you need the same barcode to sell your products to the food service sector, too, since barcodes mean that you can identify your products from manufacture through delivery and out to the final sale.
The food service sector has used GS1’s standards for a long time and uses in principle all parts.
Articles and packages are numbered with GS1 Trade Item Numbers (GTIN), pallets with Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCC) and GS1 Location Numbers (GLN) are used for identification of delivery points and invoicing addresses. Packages and pallets are labelled with GS1 barcodes.
Based on GS1’s standard for Trade Item Information, suppliers provide accurate information on an item’s dimensions, weight, item number, shelf life, and so on. Trade Item Information is sent from supplier to customer using GS1 Sweden’s business service Validoo. Many business transactions such as orders, despatch advices and invoices, are sent electronically based on GS1 Sweden’s business processes, ESAP.
