Checks in GS1 BarcodeCheck

GS1 BarcodeCheck checks barcodes and logistic labels according to GS1 and ISO standards.

GS1 BarcodeCheck checks the following barcodes and logistic labels:

  • EAN-8
  • EAN-13
  • ITF-14
  • GS1-128
  • GS1 DataMatrix
  • GS1 Logistic label.

Checks according to GS1 standard

We check these parameters for one and two dimensional barcodes and logistic labels according to GS1 standard:

  • Barcode X-dimension
  • Barcode height
  • Barcode quiet zones
  • Barcode placement
  • GS1 Company Prefix is valid
  • Information in barcode, for example Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), GS1 Application Identifiers and associated information, is used in the right way and has the right structure
  • Human Readable Interpretation (HRI) is readable and complete
  • Information in barcode is the same as the human readable interpretation
  • Barcode is readable where it is intended to be used.

Checks according to ISO standard for one dimensional barcodes

Besides the checks according to GS1 standard we check these parameters for one dimensional barcodes according to ISO/IEC 15416:2000 (Information technology - Automatic identification and data capture techniques - Bar code print quality test specification - Linear symbols):

  • Decode
  • Symbol Contrast
  • Minimum reflectance
  • Minimum edge contrast
  • Modulation
  • Defects
  • Decodability.

Checks according to ISO standard for two dimensional barcodes

Besides the checks according to GS1 standard we check and grade these parameters for two dimensional barcodes according to ISO/IEC 15415:2011 (Information technology - Automatic identification and data capture techniques - Bar code symbol print quality test specification - Two-dimensional symbols)

  • Decode
  • Symbol Contrast
  • Modulation Axial Nonuniformity
  • Grid Nonuniformity
  • Unused Error Correction
  • Print Growth*
  • Fixed pattern damage
  • Clock track and solid area regularity
  • Quiet Zones
  • L1 och L2.

*Checked but not graded.

Extended checks of barcodes on outer packages

Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) on outer packages is the same as in Trade Item Information

Extended checks according to GS1 standard for logistic labels

  • Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) for included items in the barcode is the same as in Trade Item Information
  • Number of items in the barcode is the same as in Trade Item Information.

For display pallets we only check that Global Trade Item Number for included items in the barcode is the same as in Trade Item Information.
