A trade item is a product or service that may be priced or ordered or invoiced at any point in a supply chain. A trade item is uniquely identified by a Global Trade Item Number, GTIN.
TID from supplier to buyer
A TID is sent by the supplier to the buyer in the following situations:
- new trade items are being introduced
- change of a trade item's attributes
- previously sent trade item information is being corrected
- deletion of trade item data.
New item
For new items, all relevant data must be included.
Change
When changing a trade item a complete TID is sent to update the item record at the recipient's system. When changing attributes such as measurements, content and brand name there are certain rules for when a new GTIN is required.
The rules for GTIN allocation can be found at www.gs1.org/gtinrules/.
Correction
For correction of item data, a complete corrected TID must be sent. Correction of a TID is used when previous data containing errors is being corrected, but the actual trade item remains unchanged. The recipient can compare the corrected TID with information previously sent for this GTIN to see what has been corrected.
Deletion
When the supplier deletes the item record from his system, the buyer is informed. In order to keep item data synchronized between the parties, the buyer must remove the same information from his system.
