The following is an example of a product inquiry message between a buyer identified by the EAN location number 5071615111110 and a supplier identified by the EAN location number 5098765111111 The message number is 264 and it was generated on the 27th of August 1997 The buyer requests that the price list currency be quoted in Pounds Sterling.

The buyer requests several pieces of information in the message Firstly, the availability of the product identified by the EAN article number 5412345123453 Secondly, all commercial information, i.e prices, allowances and charges, payment terms, etc., related to three products identified by the EAN article numbers 5410738377117, 5410738377131, and 5412345111115.

The third piece of information requested concerns a request for all information for products which have the following attributes, a blue denim shirt of the rancher style in sizes medium, large and extra large The manufacturer of the product is identified by the EAN location number 5422331123459 and the buyer only wants information on products with these attributes which have a list unit price of between 5 and 8 pounds sterling per piece.
